But the popular definition of Ubuntu is “ THE BELIEF IN A UNIVERSAL BOND OF SHARING THAT CONNECT ALL HUMANITY ”

It all started when Khaya joined the Performing Art in 1989 with subsequent performances in numerous community projects. This production house is not only highlight Khaya Mbimba journey through the past, present and future, but also reveals what makes

South Africa with its colorful Rainbow Nation, such an exciting country to live in and illustrates how Africa traditions and heritage continue to prosper side by side with western culture. Khaya find himself at the intersection of the world where ideas, innovation and experience are exchanged, this production house demonstrate how past and the future meet and merge, the one enriching and influence the other.

UBUNTU LIVE consists of:

MARIMBA BAND

Xylophone in three parts and they’re played on up to three marimbas.

All intertwined with drumming and topped with a byplay of male and female voice.

Both are smoothly harmonized or rough – hewn and urgent.

GUMBOOT DANCE

The miners work under harsh condition –forbidden to speak to one another and often chained to their work stations , below ground poor drainage often led to flooding and the mine executive eventually issued miners with “gumboots” or “willies”-rather than address the flooding . Stamping their feet, ratting their chains and slapping their “gumboot ” became the way miners could communicate hundreds of feet below ground.

TRADITIONAL DANCE

In the village the sound of the drum and of the woman singing as they worked around the kraal –these sounds are as old as time and will always be there. Where men undergo initiation there is music when the ancestors are summoned… there is music; when the celebration of birth….and the mourning of death …there is music. When men court beautiful woman; when the woman flirt and the men display their skills to prove how strong they are …then the music and drums of African sound. The drum is powerful and speaks to the heart and the soul of the listener!

AFRICAN DRUMMING

Drumming has been an integral part of life in many cultures for thousands of years as means of celebrating life, love and unity. A guaranteed stress-buster , modern –day drumming is a great way to loose , have fun and invigorate your mind while venting the frustrations of your day . It’s also a great way to meet people, to enjoy as a group of friends, and is very powerful as a corporate team-building exercise.

We also offer WORKSHOPS IN AFRICAN INSTRUMENTS.
